Welcome
This is the new home of Taro and Ti. This site is constantly being updated, so please return periodically to see how things are progressing - new information is being added on a daily basis. We also have lotsa yummy recipes with a decided leaning to Hawaiian foods, as well as cultural information and history around the plants I cultivate - more as this site grows. If you are interested in taro, there are many taro varieties listed and described here with more being added every day too, as well as upcoming articles to be added frequently as soon as I complete the taro listing.
I cultivate many varieties of Taro and other tropical exotics here in central Texas, some in beds and others in an earth-sheltered pit-greenhouse and some in containerized lo’i. As propagation achieves commercial quantities, taro will become available for sale in addition to various gingers, ti and many other tropicals. Be aware that seasons will affect availability, and that I will can only ship to the continental states of the US.
My primary goal tho is to connect growers, enthusiasts and those simply interested in taro together, and thusly provide information and experience broader than my own, so please give consideration to joining our Yahoo discussion group - a lot of very knowledgeable people frequent that list and there is plenty of trading occurring between members as well. Please click “here to join” For those of you blessed to live in Hawaii, we do have some members who also live there who may be able to help direct you to sources there on the Islands.
For those interested in the culinary value of taro, please be aware that all parts of taro must be thoroughly cooked before consuming because taro tissue contains oxalic acid crystals that can cause inflammation if taro is eaten raw.
NOTICE - Taro and Ti Yahoogroup! - I have created a forum for discussion amongst collectors, enthusiasts and the curious. It’s grown well and and has many knowledgeable taro and tropical plants and culinary enthusiasts to discuss with. You can join if you click “Join” and follow the easy step. There is a lot of information, links, recipes, photos and dialog available for you to browse and participation is very welcome. Please join it here (opens new window): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Taro-and-Ti/ It’s been nearly two years since founding and the Yahoo Group is very active with a lot of taro and tropical plant enthusiasts - certainly worth your time if you’re also a taro and tropical plant enthusiast.
I currently have only a very limited stock for sale thru this site - if at all - I am feverishly propagating, multiplying and growing the collection and will promptly indicate which items have reached numbers I feel comfortable with to put up for sale. The initial goal of this site is to promote the growing of these exotics via information and dialog - the secondary purpose in time will be to help proliferate varieties of taro and other exotics. However, I may have extras on a very seasonal basis depending on growing conditions, and am forming a relationship with another taro farmer so contact me on a case by case basis until I get a proper shopping cart put in and I’ll happily try to track down what you’re looking for.
